ECOCERT
ECOCERT is an organic certification organization, founded in France in 1991. It is based in Europe but conducts inspections in over 80 countries, making it one of the largest organic certification organizations in the world. ECOCERT primarily certifies food and food products, but also cosmetics, detergents, and perfumes. The company inspects about 30% of the organic food industry worldwide.
COSMOS stands for “COSMetic Organic and Natural Standard”, which sets certification requirements for organic and natural cosmetics products in the Europe. The standard is recognized globally by the cosmetic industry. By adhering to specific guidelines, cosmetics marketers can use COSMOS signatures on packaging to confirm the products meet minimum industry requirements to be considered organic or natural. The organic and natural cosmetics standards have been created by five organizations including BDIH (Germany), Cosmebio (France), Ecocert Greenlife SAS (France), ICEA (Italy), and Soil Association (Great Britain).
Ingredients approved by ECOCERT have fulfilled the compliance criteria for a raw material
set out in the ECOCERT “ecological and organic cosmetics” standard or in the COSMOS
standard. The requirements focus particularly on the origin, processing techniques, the
types of production aids, solvents and additives (preservatives) involved in the
manufacturing process of a raw material. ECOCERT/COSMOS approved raw material can be
used for the manufacture of ECOCERT certified organic or ECOCERT natural finished
cosmetics.
USDA CERTIFIED ORGANIC
Organic certification is a process for producers of organic food and other organic agricultural products including cosmetics and personal care products. Requirements vary from country to country, and generally involve a set of production standards for growing, storage, processing, packaging and shipping. The United States, the European Union, Canada and Japan have comprehensive organic legislation, and the term ‘organic’ may be used only by certified producers. Cosmetic manufacturers can voluntarily seek organic certification from a variety of national and international organizations. Our certified organic products are certified by the Washington State Department of Agriculture through the National Organic Program (NOP) which is the program of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) responsible for administering and enforcing the regulatory framework.
